Polkadot Bride Guest tutorial.

Here is the Table Confetti that I created as a tutorial over at the lovely wedding blog Polkadot Bride.  You can click here if you would like to see how to make this.  Sorry we are in a rush, we are off to see a performance of Alice in Wonderland at a local school.

Itty Bitty City.

Itty Bitty City

Last week I answered a call from Jenny from the fabulous on-line kid’s magazine lmnop.  Jenny asked if I could make a sign for Itty Bitty City, a paper based family project held at the National Arts School in Forbes St, Darlinghurst to celebrate the opening of Art Month.  I was thrilled to make the sign, and it looks to all accounts like everyone had a great time creating an Itty Bitty City from paper and bits and pieces.  Wow.  Did you see that silver dragon?  Or maybe it’s a rocket?  I LOVE seeing kids letting loose with their creativity.  Congratulations Jenny and Ian on a fabulous day!

This is post no. 150 for me.  I think that calls for a giveaway tomorrow.

A makeover.

2011_01_201

Hello friends.  Here is a little makeover I did on a small and very dirty shelf found in the Op Shop for $2.  The acrylic paint was left over from the Claudine Hellmuth online course that I took last year and the papers – well you know I had a few scraps lying around!  Now the girls have somewhere to put those special tiny things (Little Miss Viking is a true collector like myself – currently collecting bottle tops??).

Today I am taking photos for the vintage shop – yay.  What are you doing today?  Is it as quiet at yours as it is at mine?  Wait, I just heard a chainsaw start up!  That is more like it.

D.I.Y. Advent Cards – Day 24.

A little washi tape festive bunting to end the series – ’cause I am the garland girl!  Thank you for following along and thank you for all of your lovely comments and support for me and Paperklip and Tivoli Vintage this year.  You are much appreciated here. Merry Happy Christmas!

Oh, we are nearly there!  Miss Viking loved this one (along with No. 7 – which also featured some bling).  I drew a diagonal grid with a 0.2 Artline pen and placed alternative red and clear stick-on bling dots in the crosses.  Tres chic.

Oh, pretty.  This one is quite the chance card.  I had some soft organza ribbon on the table for present wrapping and I took my scissors to it and cut little pieces.  Then I covered the numbers in glue and sprinkled away.  I love how it turned out, some layers are thin and sheer and in some places there is a nice depth where they overlap.  I think this one is my second favourite (after crazy 18).

Inspired by the Merry Christmas garlands that I made for the shop this year, I did a little cut and paste with the left overs to make them look like candy canes.

Today I have been cooking up a storm.  As a treat for Mr Viking on Christmas Eve I make him the traditional Danish Christmas dinner of roast duck, white and brown sugar potatoes, red cabbage, greens and for dessert – Ris a’lamande – a vanilla and almond rice pudding with hot cherry sauce.  It is so yummy, so it’s not a chore!

D.I.Y. Advent Cards – Day 20.

Hello there.  Merry Christmas to you.  I am posting the last of the Advent Card series today.  They are of course all coming together because I spent 3 great days at the caravan giving it a clean-up before we all go down for a little R & R.  I hope that your Christmas plans include a little R & R, it has been a crazy hectic year and we all deserve a little down time with our families, don’t you think?

For Day 20 I did a bit of recycling.  I was sent a lovely card earlier this year and it had lots of lovely hand-cut branches on it – it was so wonderful. So I took a few strands and glued them to the numbers.  They look a little like coral now I think.

D.I.Y. Advent Cards – Day 19.

Today’s card was a combination of stenciling and glue and glitter.  I used an off cut of die-cut cardstock that looked a little like a paper doilly.  I dabbed some glue throught the little holes and applied a lot of glitter and shook off the excess.

Guess where I am going tomorrow?  I am going to our caravan.  For the first time as an owner.  Mostly to clean.  And measure for curtains that I am going to attempt to make (Craft Group will be supporting me in this, though they may not be aware of their level of contribution yet…)  This trip does also depend on me finishing 2 orders tonight and the rain stopping.  Hasn’t it been so wet?  The little Vikings are very excited.  But not as much as me :)

When I did the original set of Advent Cards for Fiona Kate, this one took the most time, though it turned out my absolute favourite.  What do you think – too bright?  You could use more subtle colours, like gold, peach and brown – or lilac, rose and yellow.  This would make a lovely handmade birthday card too.

I simply worked the tapes as if they were mosaic tiles, cutting small pieces to fit the outline of the numbers.  Not rocket science, but give yourself an hour to make this one – it will be a labour of love.
