My $5 chairs

I was blog hopping over at Megan Morton’s lovely new blog (she has a lovely book too, called Home Love) and I found a link to this fun little gadget.  You can find out your Swedish furniture name.  Useless?  Maybe.  But fun.  Paperklip seems to be a chair.  Quite appropriate as I love chairs.  So does the Viking.  We grabbed a couple of special ones when we lived in Denmark.  We have Arne Jacobsen’s egg chair in the stue (lounge room in Danish) and our dining chairs are Jacobsen’s 7’s.  Both design classics and have held up well with 3 little vikings in the house.  We also have some 1950’s chairs found for $5 each at the local op-shop in our entry, love those too.  Do you love chairs too?  Do you have a favourite classic or just an old favourite around the house?

Happy Easter.  I hope you have a relaxing break.  I am actually in panic mode as my in-laws will be arriving from Denmark tommorow at 6.10am.  The house needs the once over.  We are all very excited they are coming.

We are going to try dyeing eggs.  We are going to eat Hot Cross Buns and drink Hot Chocolate.  We are having Tasmanian Salmon for dinner tommorow evening.  We are already counting the sleeps til the Easter Rabbit (hopefully) makes an appearance.   I am going to enjoy doing the dishes with my Rob Ryan tea towel (thank you Inside Out magazine!).  What will you do?

Do you ever play that memory game with your children?  We play it at the dinner table.  I went shopping and I bought – one cupcake, next person repeats and adds – I went shopping and I bought one cupcake and 3 apples, and so on.  We have a slightly different version that goes ‘I went to Farmor and Farfar’s house and I took’  – usually lots of warm things because they are in Denmark but sometimes the cat comes along. 

Well, I went shopping and I bought 1 vintage zebra figurine ($1.50), 3 metres of ticking fabric for a new market stall tablecloth ($25.80) and 1 vintage doll’s highchair ($10).

Oh, hi there.  I just thought I’d pop in and say thank you for all of the lovely comments on 51 posts.  I forgot to mention WHEN I would draw the name from the hat and I think I’ll do it Thursday so it could make in the post for Friday.  What do you say?

I’ve also cut my long hair.  Change is good.  Tidied my work room down stairs, would you like to see it sometime?  I’ll give you a tour when the drawers come in from IKEA.  2 weeks.

This week I’ll be tidying up in the Etsy shop, finishing some orders, getting prepared for a new crafty adventure with this girl, attending Master L’s first ever swimming carnival as a supportive Mum and watching Miss H’s first ever dance class.  Personally I think she should be in drama classes but we will try this first.

The last one for 2009.  A pretty name for a new baby.

It was such a nice day today – the sun was shining in Sydney so Master L and Miss D (Miss H was in pre-school!) took ourselves off to the big town and here are some pictures of our day.  We visited the Christmas Shop in David Jones and found a very nice advent calendar and this way we don’t have to throw out paper ones every year.  Then we hopped on over to Kinokuniya, the amazing bookstore with English and Japanese books – including a very good Japanese craft section.  I had to have the Papercutting book – full of lovely soft patterns like the flowers above.  The little pack on top – well I had no idea what I was getting there – it had some beautiful coloured papers peeping out so I couldn’t resist.  Turns out there were some nice little patterns in there along with the paper so – double happy.  Then we met The Viking for lunch and caught the train home.

Just before home I checked my post box and found a little package from Melissa of Tinyhappy.  It was a little needlebook I bought from her Etsy shop last week.  Melissa has a lovely blog all about life in New Zealand, filled with snippets of sewing (mostly from vintage and recycled things), family life and the nature of New Zealand.  It is really worth a look.
