It’s raining.

Ivy

Ivy

It’s raining.  And if you haven’t heard it rained on The April Stitches and Craft Show.  It was cancelled yesterday by the organisers due to lack of support from some of the large retailers.  I don’t know what to make of that really.  We all need each other, right?  Crafters and retailers.  And we like to be inspired and these events are the source of inspiration for many crafters.  The good news is things are going ahead in Melbourne and the August show for Sydney is still very much confirmed.  Something to look forward to.  I will teach yet.

Up there is Ivy.  She is the first bird flying the coop.  Do you like her?  She is an original and she is available here.

That is really disappointing (and surprising) that the Stitches & Craft has been cancelled again this year for Sydney. I was really looking forward to the show. PS. Love Ivy! I was really wanting to come along and make one with you. X Lisa

    Ivy is lovely :-)

  3. Cindy says:

Ivy is so pretty, I was hoping to come to the April show and go to your paper craft bar!

It is very disappointing indeed that they keep cancelling their shows and their website hasn’t been up for a few months now. Are you sure Melbourne and Sydney August is on? I hope so for your sake…

  4. Melinda says:

Thanks Cindy! I am pretty sure the SACS will go on in August, they have held it at that time every year and the Feb/April show was to be an extra one.
If you can’t wait that long, stay tuned as I will be teaching 2 collage classes in June for Notebook magazine. Yay!

  5. Sally says:

I have been told by organisers at Rosehill that Stitches & Craft will NOT be run there in August.. they refuse to do any further business with them..

  6. Melinda says:

    Hi Sally,
I am not sure about the politics that lie with the Rosehill venue and the people who run the SACS. The show will go ahead at a new venue – The Technology Park in Redfern. I am just happy to represent Notebook magazine and spread the love of papercrafting further.
I guess we just keep watching the SACS web-site for further updates.

  7. Sally says:

I doubt it will be run there either, Stitches & Craft paid for the venue in April, they’re not happy with Creative Exhibitions either.

  8. Sally says:

Sorry, that should have read, Stitches & Craft NEVER paid for the venue at Redfern either, so Australian Technology park aren’t happy with Creative exhibitions either.

  9. corrie says:

Stitches and Craft is definitely going to be on in August at Redfern!!!!!! I have been assured by the organisers that melbourne and sydney (august) are going ahead!!!!

    Corrie:)

  10. Kristen says:

I will be at Melbourne S&C next week for sure AND the Sydney show in August.

There have been a lot of negative rumours spread by other craft shows. This is not the place for such a forum.

Mel’s blog is a place of sunshine and beautiful craft!

Corrie, look forward to seeing you in August.

I am looking forward to going to the Sydney Stitches and Craft show August but have not seen any update information leading up to it.
I rang Aust. Technology Park and the show has not booked with them yet, even though I’ve seen it advertised on several sites!
Hope it will still go ahead!

  12. Melinda says:

    Hi Mary,
I haven’t heard anything yet either in regards to the Show. Will post something as soon as I know more. Lets cross our toes.
    Mel xx

I was supposed to exhibit at the August Stitches and Craft show, but presume it has been cancelled. No website updates, the phone number on the website is dead, emails are not being answered and no contract has arrived… And I also checked with Technology Park and there is not booking for the show… Really sad as I’ve been planning for this since late last year. I understand that they have had problems on many fronts, but surely a mass email or a website update to let people know what is going on isn’t too much to ask.

  14. Melinda says:

Yikes, just checked Stitches website – nothing. I am so dissapointed for you Kirrily. I totally agree that there should be more information available about this, especially for retailers. I miss out too :( .

  15. Mary says:

    Hi!
Thanks Kirrily and Melinda for the update.

I also checked with Australian Technology Park (ATP) and there is no booking for the show, they have been getting enquiries about the Stitches and Craft every 5 minutes or something like that. ATP could put a note on their website but maybe it’s not their responsiblity.

I do doubt it will be organised and it is sad, would have been good to go to.

If Stitches and Craft do get something going, will be interesting to see how many stalls, how organised considering it is so close to the time that they were going to have it.

    =( mary

  16. Kirrily says:

Thanks Melinda and yup Mary it is sad! The Incubator section that they had was a great opportunity for independent designers to showcase and sell their work – one of the few large scale shows that was actually affordable.

Oh well! Here’s hoping for more opportunities!

  17. Irene says:

At last, I have finally found out about the stitches&craft show at rosehill. All the websites are dead and any mail to them come back as undelivered. It’s about time these people got their act together and let the community know what is going on.

  18. Patty says:

my friends & I went all the way from Grafton, organised child care and work cover to attend the Sydney craft show on the weekend and there was nothing there, only people walking around trying to find the event. There wasn’t even a sign informing people that the event had been cancelled, no web site notice – nothing!!
This was a complete disaster and the organisers seem incompetent and not give a toss about the huge effort people went to in order to attend this event.
We were hoping for inspiration and to converse with fellow crafters but instead received a rude slap in the face!
angry feelings aside – Love your blog by the way!!

  19. Melinda says:

    Hi Patty,
I think that it is disgraceful and disrespectful to customers to not inform them of events not going ahead. In this case there was no information on The Stitches & Craft Show website or the Technology Park website regarding the cancellation of this show. Shame, shame to them. I hope that you and your friends still managed to have a nice time in Sydney after your long trip down.
I really hope that the Craft Show peeps can work this all out and provide a new, inspiring platform for us and we can move forward. I am quite disgusted and I need a cup of tea.
Thank you so much for the comments on my blog!
